19/10/2022: FAI Junior Cup exits; Full fixtures on Bank Holiday weekend Saturday
Saturday (15/10/2022) was a disappointing day in the FAI Junior Cup 2nd round for UCFL teams with Fairview Celtic the only one out of 7 teams to make it through to the 3rd round.
Good progress was made in the Challenge Cup with 8 games completed.
All teams should note that there will be a full programme of games on 29/10/2022, the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend.
04/10/2022: October Management Meeting, Referees’ Night, Dunshaughlin open new facilities
The October management meeting will be held at 7.30pm this Thursday, 6 October 2022. With the Covid-19 pandemic receding (we hope!), the meeting will be held “in-person”, in the Dublin Central Mission Hall, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin.
As usual, all clubs must be represented, with fines to be imposed for non-attendance.
The UCFL annual Referees’ Night was held on Monday night (Oct 3). It was again a successful evening, with several short addresses on procedures before the more informal aspect of the event was enjoyed by all present.
In other news, Saturday was an important day in the development of Dunshaughlin Youths FC as their new facilities, incorporating several grass pitches and two artificial pitches, were officially opened. A number of UCFL officials were among officials from the football world in attendance, including FAI President Gerry McAnaney, along with the Minister for Justice and local Meath TD, Helen McEntee. The opening ceremony was preceded by a game on one of the new pitches, with Dunshaughlin recording a 3-3 draw with Blackforge.
26/09/2022: Referees’ Night and Management Meeting both next week
The UCFL Executive will host their annual Referees’ Night on Monday October 3. Invitations have been issued to all referees for what is usually an enjoyable evening.
Club secretaries should note that the October management meeting will be held in-person in the DCM Hall, Lower Abbey St at 7.30pm on Thursday, Oct 6. Full details will be circulated by email early next week.
19/09/2022: LFA Junior Cup opening round; League games continue
The first external competition games of the new season were played on Saturday with 16 UCFL teams taking part in 14 games in the opening round of the LFA Junior Cup. Unfortunately, it was a largely disappointing day for UCFL teams with 10 of the 12 ties against non-UCFL teams going the way of their opponents. Nonetheless, AGP and Beech Park did record good wins to proceed to the second round.
Elsewhere, Kill Celtic have returned to the UCFL after several years absence and played their first game, against Drumcondra 2nds in Division 3A, on Saturday though they will be hoping for better results in the coming weeks after going down to a 1-4 defeat. ROC Celtic are expecting their newly formed 2nd team to kick off their season in Division 3B next Saturday (Sept 24).
12/09/2022: Midweek games end; Opening Cup Draws likely in the next fortnight
With early season midweek games ending last Wednesday night (07/09/2022), Saturday saw the completion of the 91st game of the new season.
The draw for the opening round of the Challenge Cup will be made in the next two or three weeks. It is possible that byes will be granted to Premier Division teams in the 1st round, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the first external competition games of the new season will take place next Saturday as a number of UCFL teams will play in the 1st round of the LFA Junior Cup.
18/07/2022: Pre-season Tournament kicks off; Formation Meeting deferred
The pre-season tournament in memory of David Blood kicks off this Wednesday night (July 20). Participating teams have been notified by email of fixtures and rules which will apply.
It had been intended to hold a management meeting this Thursday night, but this has been deferred until further notice as work on the formation of the divisions will not be completed for a few more weeks.
