08/03/2010: Progress in leagues and Cups as most matches played
Leixlip v Fingal Utd, Div2 Shield Final 2009: Shields begin in March
Favourable weather conditions allowed nearly all matches to go ahead as planned on Saturday (06/03/2010). Results, updated league tables, reports and other information will appear in the Irish Daily Star on Tuesday as usual. This website will be updated with this information after publication in the Star. Note that the weekend’s results are already available on Aertel page 449 now.
At Thursday’s monthly management meeting, the Fixtures Secretary outlined the schedule for the remaining rounds of the Cups and also that for the Shield competitions. Where possible, the quarter-finals of the Nivea for Men Challenge Cup, the MMI Cup and the Sidney Bedlow Cup will be held on 13/03/2010. The semi-finals will then be held at some point in April with the finals to follow in May. It is hoped to hold a reception in April in advance of the semi-finals to promote the final stages of the 3 competitions.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Shield competitions will begin in March. It is expected that for most divisions, these will be held on a straight knockout basis, though a round-robin basis may be employed in a couple of divisions which are closer to completion.
It was noted that Trinity Corinthians are due to play their last 16 match against Rock Celtic in the LFA Junior Cup on 20/03/2010.
Finally, midweek games will begin on Wednesday, 31/03/2010, with 6.15pm kick offs; all teams with a backlog can certainly expect a fixture that evening. There will also be (some) matches on Easter Saturday (03/04/2010).
