FC Ailesbury have won the 2012 Nivea for Men Challenge Men following a tremendous 4-3 win over Trinity Corinthians on Saturday evening.

The final was incident packed from start to finish, with Ailesbury taking the lead in the opening couple of minutes through Anthony Walsh.  However, Trinity hit back 10 minutes later when Kenny Hills equalised, took the lead with a soft goal on 30 minutes and went in at the break 3-1 ahead after a fine goal from Joe Davitt on 40 minutes.

However, Ailesbury were not to be denied and in a memorable second half, goals on 51 minutes from Dermot Grier and an Emmet Sandford free-kick on 62 minutes saw them draw level, before Man of the Match Sandford converted a 78th minute penalty to put Ailesbury back in front for the second time in the game.  Trinity hit the crossbar in the 88th minute, but Ailesbury held on.

Earlier in the day, Castle Celtic appeared headed for victory in the MMI Cup Final before a last minute Rathmichael equaliser sent the game into extra-time and ultimately penalties.  The shootout itself saw the opening penalties from both sides impressively converted, before a series of missed kicks and saves ended with Rathmichael securing the MMI Cup in this, their second season in the UCFL.
