05/06/2018: Harding IF FC 2-1 VEC FC (aet)

Harding completed a memorable season with a fine victory over VEC in the Richard Knight Cup Final, held in FAI HQ in Abbotstown on Tuesday (05/06/2018) night.

Harding took the lead half an hour into the game with an own goal, but VEC fought back in the second half. They equalised with about 15 minutes left when captain Anthony Dunne converted a penalty awarded after Joey Byrne was fouled by the Harding keeper in the penalty area.

With no further goals in the 90 minutes, the game went into extra-time and Harding’s Declan McKenna, who had been involved in Harding’s earlier goal, was on the mark with a brilliant strike from 25 yards, curling the ball over the VEC keeper and in off the underside of the bar.

With this win, Harding have now added the Knight Cup to their Premier Division triumph, confirming their superiority over their main rivals VEC, who were forced to settle for runners-up in both competitions.
