13/06/2019: Division 1 Shield Final: Drumcondra v Drimnagh Celtic

01/06/2019: Premier Div Shield Final: Harding 1-0 VEC FC

After taking the Challenge Cup with a 6-3 win over Drumcondra in last Saturday’s Final, then clinching the Premier Division title on Wednesday night, VEC were hoping to complete a treble in the space of a week when they took on Harding in the Premier Division Shield Final this Saturday (01/06/2019).

However, after a difficult season defending the Premier Division title won in 2018, Harding’s form had improved in the closing weeks of the season and they continued in similar fashion today, matching VEC throughout a closely fought game. Despite Harding hitting the post early on, there were few clear cut chances and the game appeared destined for penalties. But with just 5 minutes left, Harding were awarded a free 25 yards out in front of goal and Gianmarco Fratangeli stepped up to hit a memorable winner.

VEC had a couple of half chances in a frantic last few minutes, but Harding held on to record a victory that suggested they will be a force again in the Premier Division next season.

17/05/2019: Div 2 Shield Final: Oldbury 4-1 Rathmines Roosters

Oldbury, who claimed the first trophy of the UCFL season when they clinched the Division 2 league title at the beginning of April, added a second trophy on Wednesday night (15/05/2019) when they recorded a 4-1 victory over Rathmines Roosters in the Division 2 Shield Final.

This was the first of the Shield Finals, with 3 of the other 4 due to be held on June 1, the Saturday of the June Bank Holiday Weekend.
